Fabulous Fireplaces

"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire."
--William Butler Yeats

Hello!  How are you?  What have you been up to?

I wanted to reach out and let you know that I am available to refresh your fireplace if needed.  We all need a little refresh now and then and I am sure that your fireplace has been getting a work out this winter.  Here are some  fireplaces that I have had the privilege of working on.  It is kind of fun to show before and after photos so that is what I am doing here in my newsletter.  In the 1990's we took fireplaces and made them something other than stone. Fireplaces went rustic, tuscan, marble, etc.  In today's clean modern looks,  it is popular to go back to stone.  What is on your fireplace?  What do you like?

This painted white fireplace was changed to a stried plaster finish with layers of stone colors washed on and bolsa wood inserts with a Moroccan pattern to match the gorgeous kitchen back splash located across the great room.

This kiva fireplace was built from a kit by others.  My husband, Mike, and I plastered it with a stucco lite product filled with fiberglass fibers to hold it together then with drywall mudd so that we could sand it.  Next we primed, painted then glazed it and added stencils.  It was like playing in the mud... My fun client's inspiration was an embossed tea cup from the Prado at Balboa park.

These photos were taken by the realtor who sold this lovely ranch home. The home owner hired Kim Smart of Smart Interiors to refresh this home to sell.  Kim asked me to return their fireplace to a stone finish along with other improvements not shown.

Sometimes your fireplace is absolutely perfect but your walls need a refresh.  These walls received a metallic plaster to make them shine!

Sometimes your fireplace needs a total make over.  Our clients changed out their tiles, added a mantle and hired my friend, Vicki, to make a new hearth and we both plastered the fireplace in a metallic copper finish with glaze for a bold bronze look!

This green marble was done by others.  It needed a refresh because it was burned by a log and my client was ready for a new more traditional look.

Sometimes your fireplace just needs a little pop of color to dress it up.  Kind of like adding ear rings to your favorite outfit!

Sometimes your fireplace and walls are textured and glazed to look like a grotto to go with your new wine bar...
